You Are More Than You Know

Ever had one of those days when you begin to question everything that you've been doing? You know the ones - the days when you feel tired, empty and frustrated that you're not getting where you want to go as quickly as you'd like? These are difficult days; days when you feel like saying "To hell with it, I give up!" Days when you feel like just throwing in the towel, walking away and giving up on your dream.

As an entrepreneur, this can almost seem like every other day. The challenges, the setbacks, the never ending list of to do's, the phone calls, the bookings, the letdowns, and the guilt associated with the sacrifices it takes to dedicate yourself to your business every single day. It's a journey that is wrought with obstacles, decisions, self doubt, struggle and sacrifice.

If you're familiar with the book "The Hero's Journey" by Joseph Campbell, I liken this period to the abyss - the point at which you are taken to the edge of your threshold, and you fall in. This is the point where you begin to question everything, from your purpose to your motivations, to the whole point of it all, to whether or not it's even worth it to keep going. You're cold. You're tired. You're hungry and you're broke.

On these days, during our darkest moments, we seek answers to the questions that permeate our minds. "Am I strong enough to keep going?" "Do I have what it takes to see this thing through?" "Will I ever make it?" and the perhaps the most challenging and terrifying of all, "Am I worthy?" And we listen.

These are the days when we are tested for endurance and strength. These are the days when our wills and our why's are measured against the wall of resistance and the twin pillars of pain and pleasure. It is the point at which we are examined for the quality of our character, the depth of our determination and the potency of our faith.

Once we are able to become present and get still and quiet enough, we begin to hear the whisper - the whisper that Oprah is talking about when she says, "Life is whispering to us all the time." And if you listen closely enough - a smile will begin to creep across your lips and a knowing will begin to return as the words of wisdom begin to dawn a light across the darkness in your mind..."You are more than you know...". And you begin to remember what you had forgotten.

YOU ARE MORE. You know you are so much more than what you are believing about yourself in this moment. You are so much more than you know. You are more than your story or your history. You are more than your weight. You are more than your work and whatever anyone thinks of you. You are more than your lifestyle or the lifestyle that you want to be living. You are more than your financial situation. You're more than your habits. You are more than your abilities or your perceived lack thereof. You're more than your dreams, your wants, your goals and your needs. You are more than your flaws and your doubts and your imperfections. You are more than you know.

You are more! You are more than the thoughts that you think about yourself. You are more than your experiences, your mistakes or your past. You are more than the things that have happened to you or any of the things that have been done to you. You are more than your successes and your failures. You're more than the judgements that you or others may hold about you or the things that may be said about you. You're more than your strengths and your weaknesses. You are enough, and this dream is bigger than you.

It's so easy to become overwhelmed and afraid; to suffer from self doubt and insecurity and fear. But self doubt is the killer of our dreams. It is the saboteur of our hopes and desires. We cling to it because there's a part of us that believes we have to keep ourselves protected and safe. We fear the unknown of the life we hold in our imaginations, and so we chain ourselves to the endless and self defeating game of cat and mouse when it comes to pursuing our dreams. We constantly end up denying our truth because the glory of it isn't something that we recognize or feel comfortable with. So we play small and we play it safe, never really getting to know the strength of our own power or the possibility of our own potential.

Our glory is in the remembrance of who we really are. Our destiny, our journey, and our dreams were not created by us or for us - they are laid out for us in our Sacred Contract even before we are born. We cannot afford to lose ourselves or forget that the work that we do is not about us; it is our divine purpose to use our unique gifts to positively impact the world. It is beyond us or our own concerns about worthiness and acceptance. It's about impact and influence and contribution to others and to the world.

The world cannot afford for us to give up on our dreams. When we receive the call and we finally make the decision to answer it - we must go forward with the understanding that it is our duty and our destiny to fulfill our sacred purpose. We must stay true to our cause. We must remember why it is that we are here. And we must remind ourselves of the ones who we work to be in service of. They need us to keep going. They need us to step boldly into the unknown and the uncertain, to be determined to follow through and to finish what we have come here to do.

You are more than you know. You are a vehicle through which God performs his miracles! Your mission, your purpose and your destiny is to serve. You have been bestowed by Him with everything that you need to fulfill His purpose. And you must remember that He is with you every step of the way. Never doubt your capability or your worthiness. If you were not worthy you would not have been entrusted with this vision that you have for your life. It is beyond you and your desire to improve the quality of your own life. His work is done through you, and you are more than you know.
